Parent Seminar: What About the Children?

‘What About the Children?’ is a seminar for parents with children who are affected by separation, divorce, or on-going parental conflicts.  The seminar topics include:

  • How to develop a parenting plan that best meets the children's needs
  • Information about family court process and procedures
  • Effects of parental conflict on the family, especially the children
  • What hurts and what helps children during family transitions
  • Communicating better with the other parent

Pursuant to Local Family Law Rule 13(c), this seminar is required of parents with pending family law cases and is also available to all parents who want to learn how to minimize the impacts of divorce, separation, and parental conflict on their children.

REGISTRATION AND FEE INFORMATION

Please complete the Seminar Registration Form and review the fee information below.

Parent Seminar Fee:

$40 per person or

$20 per person if you earn less than $20,000 annually with proof of most recent paystub or unemployment stub or

$5 if you provide proof that you receive DSHS, TANF (cash assistance), or SSDI; or show a ProviderOne service card (in the name of the registrant) if you are indigent and receiving disability benefits or public assistance.

If you do not have the ability to pay the minimum fee, Family Court Operations has a fee waiver process.  To inquire about this process, please contact the coordinator at (206) 296-3900.

Applicable to cases filed after January 1, 2011 in King County only:  Pursuant to  LFLR 13(c)(2) , attendance of the mandatory seminar is required within sixty (60) days of service of a petition.  If you do not attend before your case schedule deadline, you will be charged a $35 noncompliance fee, pursuant to King County Ordinance 16984.
