Youth and Amateur Sports Grants Program
King County Parks invests in youth and amateur athletics to support fit and healthy communities. In alignment with the County’s Strategic Plan for Equity and Social Justice, funding is designed to remove barriers and increase access to recreation and athletics with a focus on equity.
Since 1993 King County Parks’ Youth Sports Facilities Grant Program (YSFG) has been building new and renovating old youth sports facilities. The YSFG program has awarded nearly 350 grants to cities, school districts, and non-profits to the tune of roughly $15,000,000.
The Youth Sports Facilities Grant program has new funds made available in the 2017-2018 budget from existing revenue freed up by retiring the debt on the Kingdome funded by car rental taxes collected in King County. In addition, the Council bonded against a portion of the future collections of the car rental taxes to pay for large capital projects in the near term. The combined funds resulted in over 120 grant projects identified in the current budget cycle. King County Parks is focusing on administering those grants in the near-term. The new program, called the Youth and Amateur Sports Fund (YASF), will fund both capital projects and programming activities, both focused on youth and amateur athletics. Grants will range from $5,000 to $300,000.
