King County Open Space Plan - 2016 Update

The 2016 King County Open Space Plan: Parks, Trails, and Natural Areas is an update to the 2010 plan. This plan serves as a strategic plan guiding King County Parks and establishes the policy framework for operating and capital funding priorities. Comments will be accepted until December 15, 2015 at 4:30 pm.

The Levy Citizen Oversight Board meets yearly to review levy funding allocations of King County Parks and recreation. This year's meetings are proposed to take place Thursday, October 29, Thursday, November 5, Thursday, November 12 and if needed an optional meeting on Thursday , November 19.

Taylor Mountain

Funded in part by a grant from the state’s Non-Highway and Off-Road Vehicle Activities program, this project will construct a parking lot that accommodates 30 vehicles and 25 horse trailers, as well as install trailhead amenities including a vault toilet, kiosk and hitching posts. This project also improves backcountry trails in the northeast area of the forest.

Black Diamond Natural Area 
King County Parks has issued a Determination of Non-Significance for the Black Diamond Parking Lot Installation. Parking is currently occurring along the shoulders of SR-169. The new parking areas will allow safe access to both sides of the park which is bisected by SR-169. The extensive trail system in the park attracts hikers, equestrians and bicyclists. The two gravel parking lots will accommodate a total of approximately 40 automobile spaces and 10 truck and trailer spaces.
