The Farmers Market Access Project (FMAP) is making it easier to buy healthy, locally grown food sold at farmers markets. The goal of FMAP is to help farmers make their food available to low income shoppers at farmers markets. The project evaluates new technology options that might make it easier for farmers and markets to accept electronic card payments (credit/debit/SNAP cards) from shoppers.

FMAP began in 2010 with a partnership from the King County Health Department and the King County Agricultural Program. Currently the project is being operated by the Washington State Farmers Market Association. It is part of the national "Communities Putting Prevention to Work" (CPPW) initiative. This grant is funded by the US Department of Health and Human Services. CPPW projects support schools, local governments and communities to reduce overweight and obesity rates by increasing healthy eating and physical activity through policy, system and environment changes.
