South Plant provides educational field trips for students in grades 4-12. Field trips can accommodate up to 40 students at one time and are free of charge.

Learn how wastewater can be recycled into reusable water, energy, and nutrients for plants and soil. Tours encourage visitors to think about responsible water use, the products they use and how everyday choices can help protect Puget Sound.

Wastewater tours focus on the following topics:

  • Water cycle and nutrient cycle
  • Wastewater treatment and human health
  • Human impacts to water systems
  • Pollution prevention and water conservation

Teachers can choose from the following program options:

Copies of all handouts will be ready for you, in the kits, when you arrive for your field trip.

Pre-registration Required for all field trips, 2-4 weeks in advance. Register online via the King County Wastewater education registration website
Note: The registration page is used for a variety of groups and events, and not all fields may be relevant to your request. 
Dress code Tours take place outside and in an industrial setting; all visitors must dress appropriately and wear long pants and closed-toed shoes.
Accessibility All participants must be able to walk and travel up and down multiple levels of stairs. Advance notice is required for accessible tours and accommodations.
