What’s happening in our region?

Climate change threatens the health and safety of people, the economy, and environment, locally and globally. In King County, we are already seeing the impacts of a changing climate: warming temperatures, acidifying marine waters, rising seas, increasing flooding risk, decreasing mountain snowpack, and less water in the summer.

The impacts of a changing climate will be experienced differently by King County residents, influenced by factors such as income, age, health, and where they live. As required by the Equity and Social Justice Ordinance, King County will consider the equity impacts of its decisions, services and capital projects in its strategies to combat climate change.

King County tracks a number of indicators, including greenhouse gas emissions and other trends, that helps us understand these changes and shapes our policies and strategies.
