Sheriff's Office and Auburn Police Investigating Found Skull

The Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the Auburn Police Department, are investigating the circumstances surrounding a human skull that was found yesterday inside the City of Auburn.

The Auburn Police were called after the skull was found in a ravine at about the 6300 block of S. 296th. Auburn turned the investigation over to the Sheriff's Office due to our extensive experience searching outdoor scenes.

Detectives and other searchers from both police agencies are back in the area today searching for additional bones or evidence. A few bones have been found that are most likely human.

The skull has been there for at least a few years, and possibly much longer. The sex of the victim has not been determined, nor a manner or cause of death.

Positive identification, if any, will come from the Medical Examiner’s Office. There is no timetable as to when that will occur, but certainly not today.

(Before you ask, at this point the skull has not been linked to any particular crime or series of crimes. At some point in the future it may be. Or maybe not. But you will hear it hear first. Or not.)
