Man Injured After Foot Pursuit

Man Injured After Foot Pursuit

A 29 year-old man was taken to Harborview Hospital early Sunday morning with a head injury after he was injured during a foot chase with Sheriff's deputies.  He is in serious condition.

The incident occurred about 1:15 AM.  Two Metro Transit deputies were working the bus routes and bus shelters in the Bell Town area of Seattle in uniform.  They   received a report of a disturbance at a convenience store at 2nd and Bell.  As they walked toward the store a woman stopped them and said a man had been beaten up and stabbed at the store.  She offered to show them where the suspect had gone, and the three went towards an alley between 2nd and

3rd Avenue
.

When they got to the alley the woman pointed and said, “That’s one of them right there”.  The deputies told the man to stop but he took off running.  The two deputies chased the man to 4th and Lenora, and he apparently was injured when his head hit a wall while being taken into custody.

When police returned to the convenience store all the parties in fight were gone, but there was a significant amount of blood in the store from whoever was injured.

Several witnesses were identified and interviewed by Sheriff's detectives.

One of the deputies involved is 26 years old and has been with the Sheriff's Office for nearly four years. The other is 28 years old and has 3 years of experience with the Sheriff's Office and 2 years with Phoenix Police before coming to King County.
