The Data Control Unit employs a variety of systems, equipment and technologies to conduct business and provide data informational services to law enforcement agencies throughout the county, state, and nation. Their essential activities include the following:
- Enter warrants, court orders, missing persons, missing or stolen property, and officer safety advisories into the state and national crime information center computers (WACIC/NCIC) to assist law enforcement with the identification and recovery or persons and property.
- Convey verification and confirmation of King County warrants, court orders, missing persons, missing or stolen vehicles and officer safety file information for local, state, and nationwide law enforcement agencies.
- Verify for King County Sheriff’s Office deputies and detectives all electronic hot/active records carried on the state and nationwide crime computer systems.
- Send and receive teletypes via the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS). NLETS is a dedicated line used for communication between criminal justice agencies locally and throughout the nation.
- Respond to time sensitive inquiries via telephone, teletype, computer, fax machine, radio and in person from field officers and other law enforcement agencies. All requests for verifications are real-time and require a response within 10 minutes unless otherwise stated.
