The Data Control Unit employs a variety of systems, equipment and technologies to conduct business and provide data informational services to law enforcement agencies throughout the county, state, and nation. Their essential activities include the following:
Enter warrants, court orders, missing persons, missing or stolen property, and officer safety advisories into the state and national crime information center computers (WACIC/NCIC) to assist law enforcement with the identification and recovery or persons and property.
Convey verification and confirmation of King County warrants, court orders, missing persons, missing or stolen vehicles and officer safety file information for local, state, and nationwide law enforcement agencies.
Verify for King County Sheriff’s Office deputies and detectives all electronic hot/active records carried on the state and nationwide crime computer systems.
Send and receive teletypes via the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS). NLETS is a dedicated line used for communication between criminal justice agencies locally and throughout the nation.
Respond to time sensitive inquiries via telephone, teletype, computer, fax machine, radio and in person from field officers and other law enforcement agencies. All requests for verifications are real-time and require a response within 10 minutes unless otherwise stated.
