Family Holding HandsThe Special Support Enforcement Unit (SSEU) was formed in January, 1999 in partnership with the DSHS/Division of Child Support and the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office/Family Support Division. This Unit is funded 66% with Federal Funds and 12.5% with State Funding, earmarked for supporting law enforcement collaborations.

The personnel of this Unit are dedicated to the service of Contempt of Court arrest warrants. Child support cases are referred by DSHS to the Prosecutor’s Office for a hearing when all conventional collection efforts have been exhausted. If the non-custodial parent fails to appear for the court hearing, or refuses to pay their ordered child support payments, the judge issues a warrant for their arrest. The detectives are assigned cases within King, Pierce and Snohomish County.

The Special Support Enforcement Unit is exceptional in that it is the only Sheriff’s office unit in the state of Washington dedicated to serving Child Support Warrants. In addition to arrests made, the SSEU has a significant monetary impact on child support collections for King County.

If you have a Contempt Warrant for child support or you have information as to the location of a person that has one of these warrants, you may contact the KCSO Special Support Enforcement Unit at 206-205-1570. Information that you provide is kept strictly confidential.

The Special Support Enforcement Unit is managed under a contract with the State of Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Child Support Division. The unit is dedicated solely to provide the following services:

The service of civil process associated with the issuance of court mandated child support.

  1. The service of civil contempt warrants issued for non-compliance with court ordered child support.
  2. Financial investigations designed to assist the Washington State DSHS, Office of Support Enforcement and the Family Support Division of the King County Prosecutor’s Office.

Currently, the SSEU consists of four detectives, one administrative specialist and one half-time sergeant. The unit has had outstanding success in tracking down parents who are delinquent on support payments.
