Polygraph Examiner Jason Brunson & Detective Jon Holland
Chief Criminal Deputy Pat Bond from the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office sent a letter to CID Captain Huntsinger, expressing his thanks and gratitude for the assistance provided by Polygraph Examiner Jason Brunson and Detective Jon Holland of the Major Crimes Unit. Their willingness to schedule and complete a polygraph were imperative in adding clarity to one of their missing persons cases.
Detective Lee Adams
Fraud Unit Sgt. Jesse Anderson received a call from a fraud victim who expressed her gratitude for Detective Lee Adams’ thorough investigation on her case, which resulted in a guilty plea by the suspect to multiple counts of Theft 1 and Forgery. The caller was very thankful for Lee’s patience with her during the investigation. She commented, “Lee’s way of helping people is so awesome.”
Deputy Bill Kennamer & Detective Scott Tompkins
Two Sheriff’s deputies were honored recently by the Seattle Police Department and the Seattle Police Foundation. The two received their awards at the 7th Annual Seattle Police Awards Banquet held at the Sheraton Hotel.
Deputy Bill Kennamer (Metro Transit Police) was honored for his role in a bank robbery that occurred on July 1st in West Seattle. The robber was chased into downtown Seattle where he was subsequently shot. Bill was an integral part of the team that took the suspect into custody.
Detective Scott Tompkins (Major Crimes) was honored for his work on the Organized Crime Task Force, which included the FBI, Sheriff's Office and SPD. The task force investigated local organized crime, including several unsolved killings. Detective Tompkins had a critical role in the investigation that resulted in several homicide arrests, including the suspect in a 1975 double homicide that occurred in then-unincorporated King County.
Detective Cyndi Osborne
A Vashon resident commended Detective Cyndi Osborne for her assistance while working at the Strawberry Festival. She commented that Cyndi kept a very good attitude, was kind, listened, laughed and provided the public with positive interactions. Cyndi handled Vashon residents and visitors in an extremely professional and friendly manner. The citizen feels that officers such as Cyndi give law enforcement good standing and representation. Cyndi Osborne is a CID detective in the Special Support Enforcement Unit (SSEU).
Community Service Officer Scott Dungan
Community Service Officer Scott Dungan from the King County Sheriff’s Office Domestic Violence Intervention Unit (DVIU) will receive the “Norm Maleng, Outstanding Law Enforcement Award” at the Twelfth Annual Domestic Violence Awards Ceremony on October 3, 2008. This award is being presented to him by the advocates, paralegals, and deputy prosecuting attorneys of the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office Domestic Violence (KCPAO DV) Unit. This award recognizes Scott’s commitment to victims of domestic violence and their children. He has been a member of DVIU since January 1998.
Sergeant Tony Provenzo and Detective Pat Kearney
Sheriff Rahr received a letter of appreciation from Chief Thomas Sheahan from the Oak Brook, Illinois Police Department for the assistance that Special Assault Unit (SAU) Sgt. Tony Provenzo and Det. Pat Kearney provided to his detectives investigating a 1995 crime. Sgt. Provenzo provided the background information on the offender, and Det. Kearney accompanied the Oak Brook detectives to the offender’s location in Washington where he also assisted with the interview. Chief Sheahan commented that, without their assistance, it would have been difficult for his detectives to locate and gain cooperation from the offender.
Detective Jeanne Schneider
Criminal Investigations Division Chief Dymerski received a letter from the Attorney General's Office, commending Special Assault Unit (SAU) Detective Jeanne Schneider for her assistance. Detective Schneider made sure the AG's Office was able to locate important witnesses and key evidence, which led to their successful prosecution of an administrative matter involving a person's dental license.
Detective Joe Merclich and Deputy Jeff Harmon
Detective Merclich and Deputy Harmon attended an in-home neighborhood meeting to discuss an ongoing problem with drug activity in the area. More than 20 people attended the meeting. Afterward, a citizen wrote to Precinct 3 Commander Major Germani to let us know how pleased they were with the steps taken to resolve the problem.
The letter stated, "We currently have two of King County's finest officers working for us here in our Four Creeks area. Their commitment to doing their very best for our community has certainly been proven to us. It was an honor to have them in our home once again. Some people brought concerns to them that we are sure they will be evaluating and taking appropriate action on in the near future. We, in this neighborhood, appreciate Deputy Harmon's and Detective Merclich's dedication to bring us drug-free communities to raise our families."
Deputy Koby Hamill
The Sheriff’s Office received an e-mail from an employee of the Ruth Dykemans Children’s Center in Burien thanking Deputy Hamill for his positive interaction with a youth who had run away from the Center and who, on his return, had drugs in his possession. The employee stated that Deputy Hamill went beyond the call of duty and was professional yet stern when speaking with the youth. The entire staff appreciated Deputy Hamill taking the time to have a “life changing talk” with the youth.
Sergeant Bob Lurry
The Precinct 4 Commander received an e-mail thanking Sgt. Lurry for the time he gave to Vashon Island residents regarding a problem residence. The writer stated that Sgt. Lurry did a remarkable job communicating with the neighbors and that he is the model of what an officer should be. The writer said that the residents are thankful that Sgt. Lurry was there for them.
Deputy Brandon Moen, Deputy Hughes Ebinger, Deputy Kevin Stackpole, Deputy Randell Houser and “Scout”
The Kenmore Police Department Chief of Police received a letter expressing sincere and heartfelt thanks from two home owners to Deputies Moen, Ebinger, Houser, and Police K9 “Scout.” After the couple found a burglar in their home at 3:30 a.m., the deputies and “Scout” captured the burglar and the home owners were spared further injury. In the days following the burglary, Deputy Stackpole stopped by to let the residents know he would be keeping an eye out in their neighborhood. The couple said that his support “helped them get through a couple of difficult nights.”
Deputy Carol Neely
The Southeast Precinct received a complimentary voice mail from a nurse at an adult family home that had received assistance from Deputy Neely after the death of a resident at the home. The nurse said that Deputy Neely “was nothing less than exemplary and very professional. She was very kind, thorough, and mindful of what other residents and staff were experiencing.”
Deputy Clayton Minshull
The Commander of the Southwest Precinct received a call from a Vashon Island resident commending Deputy Minshull’s assistance. The resident had just arrived back on the island when he hit a patch of ice that sent him off the road, seriously damaging his vehicle. He said that Deputy Minshull was “great” and “helped in every possible way,” including staying with him for an extended period until the tow company arrived.
Deputy David Cissna and Deputy Mark Pike
The Southeast Precinct Commander received a letter expressing appreciation to Deputies Cissna and Pike in their response to the SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) death of an 11-week-old infant. The infant’s grandmother wrote that both of these deputies “gave comfort, dignity, support, and respect to her and her family.” She felt that, on this night, the deputies went well beyond the call of duty. “They gave simple but direct instructions and, in doing so, used comforting voices and such support.”
Captain Rob Mendel and Deputy Donyelle Frazier
The SeaTac Police Department received a letter of gratitude for the attention a neighborhood received after a resident met with Captain Mendel to explain a serious and on-going neighborhood problem. Captain Mendel passed the information to Deputy Frazier, who then began immediately addressing the issues. The neighbor wrote that, “Words cannot express my gratitude for the peace they have restored to the neighborhood.”
Deputy Ryan Abbott, Deputy Ross Curry, Deputy Eric Lewis, Deputy Doug Reynolds, Reserve Detective Joseph Peluso
A SeaTac Block Watch Captain wrote a letter to the SeaTac Chief of Police thanking Deputies Abbott, Curry, Lewis, Reynolds, and Reserve Detective Peluso. The writer commended these Sheriff’s Office employees for their hard work and diligence solving an aggressive animal problem and thanked them for helping to keep their neighborhood a safe place to live.
Deputy Kevin Stackpole, Deputy Cary Coblantz, Deputy James Donner, Detective Matthew Volpe, Detective David Wells and Detective James Leach
Sheriff Rahr received a letter from the Washington State Liquor Control Board commending these deputies and detectives for their thorough investigation of the driving under the influence (DUI) crash that occurred in front of the Cozy Inn Tavern in Kenmore, during which Deputy Donn Pottieger was severely injured.
Project Program Manager III Tom Nesko
Sheriff Rahr received a letter from the Port of Seattle Police Department expressing appreciation for the assistance that CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) Accreditation Manager Tom Nesko provided during an inventory of their evidence and property room. His knowledge of property room standards assisted them in quickly and efficiently completing the process.
Identification Technician Benjamin Murciego
A commendation was received for ID Tech Benjamin Murciego which expressed appreciation for his assistance to a resident dealing with an identify theft. The resident said that Murciego was “very helpful in assisting me by providing instruction for the proper procedures in correcting this problem, answering all my questions, and writing an outstanding letter. Thank you for employing such a good person.”
