To serve its community, the City of Shoreline has contracted with the Sheriff's Office since 1995 for its full-service police department. Officers work exclusively for Shoreline, wear city uniforms, and drive city-marked patrol cars.
About the Department
The chief of police for Shoreline oversees a staff of 46 commissioned officers, two administrative support staff, and a community service officer (who is non-commissioned). The department includes a Burglary/Larceny Unit, a Street Crimes Unit, reactive patrol that responds to calls for service, special support services, and traffic patrol. Shoreline also contracts for services from the KCSO’s Criminal Investigations Division and Special Operations Section; these personnel do not work out of the precinct, but work closely with precinct staff.
Mission
The mission of the Shoreline Police Department is to prevent crime and create an environment where people feel safe, while providing quality, professional law enforcement services designed to improve public safety.
Services
Shoreline police operate several community outreach programs, including community-based storefronts.
- For youth, these include school resource officers in both high schools, a teen center, youth council, and police explorers.
- Community crime prevention programs include Blockwatch, Landlord Training, Anti-Auto Theft, Memory Impaired Assistance, Business Watch, and Court Reminders, among others.
- The police also work with businesses and citizens to maintain an aggressive abatement program and hotel/motel trespass program.
