The City of Burien entered into a partnership with the Sheriff's Office when the city incorporated in 1993.

Burien is located in the southwest region of the county and has a population of over 31,000 residents. The Burien law enforcement team is made up of 41 patrol officers, detectives and support personnel. The officers wear city-marked uniforms and drive city-marked police cars, which help to emphasize a stronger community identity. S_Kimerer__2_

Burien_PatchChief K. Scott Kimerer is celebrating his 30th year as a law enforcement leader in King County. Since May 2003, Scott has served as the City of Burien Police Chief. As the Chief, Scott has divided his priorities over the issues of youth violence, emergency preparedness, secure schools, traffic safety and a crime-free community. Prior to his appointment as Chief, his career includes serving as a deputy, sergeant and captain for the King County Sheriff's Office in patrol, investigations, transit police and problem oriented policing priorities for North Highline. Scott believes in community involvement and outreach with all of our diverse populations as an essential law enforcement philosophy.

Chief Kimerer is a recent graduate of the FBI National Academy and has been appointed by the National Academies of Science as an Executive Board Member to select research projects for both transit and airport security issues. He a member of both the Washington and International Association of Police Chief’s and is the current Chairman of the King County Police Chief’s Association.
