Deputy Kelly Park
Early on in life, I knew that I wanted to serve the community. I just didn’t quite know how. I grew up in the South and moved to Seattle in 1998. I started my career in law enforcement as a juvenile corrections officer. While working full-time I was also a full-time student at the University of Washington where I graduated in 2000 with a BA. I went from working with in-custody youth to working with juvenile offenders in the community as a Parole Officer. After a few years, I made the move to King County Sheriff’s Office because I wanted to have a more proactive role with the community. I hoped to make an impact on community issues before they reached our court system, and I wanted to be a positive role model for the people I served. I chose King County Sheriff’s Office because it is a big department with many opportunities for movement and advancement. The biggest influence though came from my best friend, who was already a deputy. I started my career as a deputy policing the north end of the County. Later, I contracted with the City of Shoreline where I worked patrol on day, swing and grave yard shifts. I also trained new recruit deputies as a Field Training Officer (FTO). Today, I work as a School Resource Officer (SRO) for the contract City of Woodinville! This position allows me the freedom to create programs and connect with the community in a positive manner while holding youth accountable for their actions in a highly supportive City with a flexible schedule. Being an SRO gives me an avenue to teach, which I enjoy coming from a family of educators. The position also allows me to incorporate my training and experience as an FTO and Defensive Tactics Instructor. My position keeps me connected with patrol, the backbone of our department. In my time off I enjoy hanging out with my husband and our two children.
