Sergeant Ted Boe
I decided to become a police officer while I was attending college at the University of Washington. I attended a citizen's academy and learned that the career was nothing like what I envisioned. There are so many different areas of law enforcement that everyone can find something that matches their skill set. I looked at several local agencies and determined that King County Sheriff's Office was the one I wanted to work for. This agency just had more opportunities than other agencies offered. You can do something different every few years and still be a part of the same department. I also believe in the Sheriff's Core Values, which are Leadership, Integrity, Service and Teamwork. That is how I choose to live my life, whether on or off-duty. My career began in 2000 as a Deputy working the rural areas surrounding North Bend, Fall City, Carnation and Duvall. I then went to work for our contracted city police departments in Carnation and Sammamish. Working for a city department is very different type of work and I found it very rewarding. After a few years, I became a traffic officer focusing on DUI detection. I spent two years as a traffic officer, arresting hundreds of impaired drivers on the east side of King County. Next I became a Master Police Officer, which is another training position. It focuses on mentoring officers after they have completed the field training officer portion of their training. In 2008, I successfully tested for the rank of Sergeant. I was transferred to the Burien Precinct where I currently work as a patrol sergeant. As you can see, life a sheriff's deputy is full of opportunities and challenges. I have enjoyed every day working for the King County Sheriff's Office and I truly love coming to work. Like any career, it is all about your mindset. There are challenges that are unique to law enforcement and you can't let them get you down. If you remember that you work for the citizens of King County, always do the best job you can, and stay committed to the Core Values -- this is the best career and department in the area.
