Dec. 22, 2009 Cold weather shelters reopen in King County - Updated Dec. 30Another spell of low temperatures prompts warming centers to reopenOvernight temperatures are expected to drop below freezing this week. In response, the following cold weather shelters will be open in King County: BELLEVUE Crossroads Community Center - Severe weather shelter CLOSED as of Tuesday, Dec. 29 16000 NE 10th St. Hours of operation: 9:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. (Check in and registration from 9:30 p.m. – 1:30 a.m. All clients must vacate the SWS by 6:30 a.m.) As with all shelters, rules for the health and safety of all clients and staff and the broader community will apply. Men, women and families can be accommodated. Open Wednesday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 28 SEATTLE City Hall - Severe weather shelter for the homeless CLOSED as of Tuesday, Dec. 29 Located on 4th Ave between James and Cherry Streets Opens at 9 p.m. (please do not arrive before 8:30 p.m.) Co-Ed shelter - Open Monday, Dec. 21 through Monday, Dec. 28 Frye Hotel - Severe weather shelter for the homeless CLOSED as of Tuesday, Dec. 29 Located on 3rd and Yesler Opens at 8 p.m. Serves only women - Open Monday, Dec. 21 through Monday, Dec. 28 King County residents are reminded to dress warmly, keep their car's gas tanks filled, wrap pipes and outdoor faucets to prevent them from freezing, make sure pets have drinkable (non-frozen) water and shelter from the cold, exercise caution when using alternate heat sources to avoid fires and carbon monoxide poisoning, and check in on family, friends and neighbors that may need assistance in dealing with cold weather conditions.
