Nov. 26, 2008 King County Animal Care and Control launches a holiday Season of H.O.P.E."Help Orphaned Pets Everywhere"
This holiday season King County Animal Care and Control (KCACC) staff and volunteers will travel to different locations throughout the county to encourage the public to adopt a shelter pet and increase awareness about programs and services.
Starting on Saturday, November 29, KCACC will set up a festive off-site adoption booth at Kent Station the next four Saturdays from 12-4 p.m. The booth will also be open Wednesday evenings from 4-7 p.m. on December 3, 10, and 17. Adoptable dogs and cats will be available to the public in heated tents located near the Santa house and Cold Stone Creamery. Volunteers and staff will be available to answer questions about adoptions, pet licensing and volunteer opportunities at KCACC.
Adoption fees range from $25 to $75 and include the spay/neuter surgery, pet license (if residing in the KCACC service area), free health exam by a veterinarian and starter pet food. Any animal adopted from the Kent Station location will also receive a free photo with Santa, courtesy of Kent Station.
“Kent Station is excited to continue our quest to partner with local organizations in our community such as the Kent Food Bank and King County Animal Care and Control during this holiday season. Our shopping center is a great location for families to shop for the holidays and find a new best friend in need of a forever home,” explains Sommer Ueda, Office Manager and Marketing Coordinator for Kent Station.
King County will also be participating in the Kids n’ Kritters Pet Walk through downtown Kent on Saturday, December 6 at 2 p.m. Dogs seeking new homes will be walked in the event by KCACC volunteers.
On Sunday, December 7, KCACC will hold another off-site adoption event at Pet Pros in Seattle (10304 Lake City Way NE) from 12-4 p.m. and the following Sunday (December 14) participate in a dog adoption event at the Academy of Canine Behavior in Bothell from 12-3 pm.
“Our holiday community outreach events are intended to show how wonderful these animals are and help the public understand that bringing a pet into one’s life can make a big difference for everyone involved. Our dream is to have all homeless pets – in all the local animal shelters and rescue organizations – to have a home and a family for the holidays, “says Wendy Keller, Acting Manager of King County Animal Care and Control.
At the adoption events, the public can also drop off donations for pets at the shelter, such as towels, dog toys, cat toys, and kitten formula. For a complete list of items on the shelter holiday wish list, visit http://www.kingcounty.gov/safety/AnimalServices/donate/animalwishlist.aspx.
