King County animal shelter in Kent will be closed on Monday
The safety measure is needed for construction that will cause power outages
As King County Animal Care and Control finalizes construction on new modular buildings and moves animals into the new facilities, the Kent shelter will be closed to the public Monday, December 1. The closure to volunteers and the public will reduce safety concerns as work crews replace an electrical transformer, which will result in short, intermittent power outages during the day.
Though the power will not be out for long enough intervals to lose warmth in the building, the decision was made to not open on Monday to reduce the number of people on site and to protect volunteers and pet-seekers from sudden darkness in the facility.
King County Animal Care and Control field services and enforcement will be working as usual, and staff will still be on hand to care for animals in the shelter on Monday.
The Kent shelter will have normal business hours on Saturday and Sunday before the closure on Monday. King County residents who want to search for a lost animal or drop of a stray animal are encouraged to visit any other local shelter on Monday.
The Kent animal shelter will reopen with normal business hours on Tuesday December 2.
