Over 125 dogs and cats find new homes with King County residents: Second annual Super Pet Adopt-a-thon a huge success
King County residents flocked to the King County Kent Animal Shelter this morning. More than 125 cats and dogs were adopted from the 17 animal shelters and rescue groups at the event.
King County Animal Care and Contro Acting Manager Al Dams was pleased with the turnout. "The sunny weather and joining of forces by the areas premier animal rescue organizations made the adopt-a-thon a successful event."
A six month old Great Dane named Elvis found a new family at the event after spending two weeks in foster care with shelter volunteer Wendy Giberson of Seattle. Elvis was abandoned and found wandering the Kent Des Moines Road two weeks ago. A trained foster volunteer with King County Animal Care and Control, Giberson nursed the dog back to health in time to be adopted today by Craig and Julie Wright of Puyallup.
Although many animals were adopted at the regional adoption event, hundreds of cats and kittens are still looking for loving homes and will return to a local shelter and wait to be adopted. Find a shelter near you by visiting the King County Animal Care and Control Web site at http://www.kingcounty.gov/safety/AnimalServices/shelters.aspx.
"This [event] was a great way to find a pet if you do not have time to shelter shop for an animal and want to see a variety of pets of different ages, breeds and sizes," said Hilary Hagel, Shelter activities coordinator for Everett Animal Services.
