It’s a purr-fect time for a new kitty

King County extends $25 adoption fee on adult cats; $40 for kittens

Kittens availableWith oodles of fabulous felines of all ages, sizes and colors awaiting new loving homes, it’s a purr-fect time to adopt a new cat or kitten from King County’s Animal Care and Control.

King County has extended its special adoption fees of just $40 for kittens and $25 for adult cats through the end of December, providing people a great opportunity to add a new member to the family for much less than the regular $75 adoption fee.

“This is an excellent time for people considering adopting a lifetime companion to come and visit one of our shelters,” said Al Dams, Acting Manager of Animal Care and Control. ”With so many cats available, people are sure to find what they’re looking for in a new friend.

“Best of all, the reduced adoption fees still cover vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery, a King County pet license, education materials, and a cat carrier.”

There are now about 600 cats and kittens logged into the Animal Services system. More than 300 of the animals are being fostered in private homes, though the Kent and Eastside animal shelters and off-site facilities are now hosting nearly 300 cats and kittens.

Dams said that kittens are usually quick to be adopted, but potential pet owners should also consider older cats. Mature cats tend to be lower maintenance, can offer plenty of lap-cat companionship and better suit those who are out of the house more often. A calmer, more settled nature, plus the ability to adapt to a new environment, are other advantages of senior cat companionship.

King County’s Kent Animal Shelter is located at 21615 - 64th Avenue South. The hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. On Thursday, the hours are 12 Noon to 6 p.m.

King County’s Eastside Pet Adoption Center (Crossroads) is located at 821 - 164th Avenue Northeast in Bellevue. The hours are 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 12 Noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
