June 24, 2006 Nearly 200 dogs and cats find new homes First ever Super Pet Adopt-a-thon a huge success Animal lovers flocked to the King County Kent Animal Shelter today for the first ever Super Pet Adopt-a-thon, successfully finding new best friends and family members. Nearly 200 cats and dogs were adopted from the 16 animal shelters and rescue groups at the event. King County Animal Services Manager Walt Washington was pleased with the turnout. "The sunny weather and joining of forces by the areas premier animal rescue organizations made the adopt-a-thon our most successful event," he said. A total of 116 dogs and 81 cats were adopted. The 3rd Annual King County Pick of the Pound Dog and Cat Show kicked-off the super-sized adopt-a-thon at 9 a.m. Sassy was crowned as the Top Dog of King County while Stump took home the honor of Cool Cat. This year’s Super Pet Adopt-a-thon would not have been possible without the following organizations bringing animals to adopt: Everett Animal Shelter, Pasado's Safe Haven, Homeward Pet Adoption Center, Purrfect Pals, Wenatchee Humane Society, Humane Society of Central Washington, Australian Cattle Dog Rescue of Western Washington, PAWS, Barks R Us Rescue, Washington State Alaskan Malamute Adoption League, Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue, Yakima Valley Pet Rescue, Humane Society for Tacoma/Pierce County, Columbia Basin Animal Rescue and Protection Agency, and Border Collie Rescue of the Pacific Northwest. |
