Love hiking at Cougar Mountain? Always on the Sammamish River Trail? Hang out at Cottage Lake Park? If so, then you'd be the perfect Park and Trail Ambassador! In 2006, King County Parks established the Park and Trail Ambassadors program for volunteers to become more deeply connected to a specific park or trail of their choosing.
Park and Trail Ambassadors are key volunteers who carry out a host of tasks, from educating and assisting visitors to reporting on trail conditions to monitoring restoration efforts to clearing litter on park properties. Each Ambassador can play a different role, depending upon personal interests, to be worked out with the Volunteer Program Manager.
How it Works
As a Park and Trail Ambassador, we ask you to:
Commit 100 hours per year of your time
Record your hours and report on any issues you observe
Work with King County Parks staff to meet our goals and uphold Parks' policies and procedures
As a Park and Trail Ambassador, you will gain:
Knowledge and experience as a steward of public land
That warm and fuzzy feeling form helping to protect, restore and improve our region's finest parks, trails, and natural areas
A fun way to pursue your own recreational interests
Our Park & Trail Ambassadors are Valued
With 180 parks, 175 miles of regional trails, 130 miles of backcountry trails, and 25,000 acres of natural areas, King County Parks welcomes the energy and dedication of all of our volunteers. We believe that their involvement enriches our larger King County community and contributes a sense of ownership and stewardship that will helps ensure that our parks and trails are here for future generations of King County citizens. The talents and skills of Ambassadors are always used to supplement, not to replace, the regular services of Parks staff.
