Cougar Mountain - Sky Country Trailhead

Located just off of I-90 near Issaquah, Cougar Mountain's 3,000 acres and 36 miles of trails make up a treasure trove of day outings for hikers and equestrians of all experience levels.

Sky Country Trailhead (pedestrians, equestrians)
Sky Country is the newest of Cougar Mountain's primary trailheads, boasting a large, paved parking lot and a central location that offers great access to many of the park's trails. Located on the north side of the park, it is midway in elevation between the popular Red Town trailhead (lower) and Anti-Aircraft Peak trailhead (higher).

Equestrians will find Sky Country particularly appealing, as the parking lot has a section reserved for horse trailers, and the Nike Horse Trail leads to the Cave Hole Trail and the park's shared equestrian/hiking trails.

As you head out on the trails, you'll see a meadow with remnants of concrete pads, roads, and berms. This is the old Nike Missile Site, part of our country's missile defense system from 1957-67.

To reach Sky Country Trailhead, take SE Cougar Mountain Way off Lakemont Blvd. Turn right onto 166th Way SE and follow it though the housing development and into the park. As you approach the park, note the impressive stone pillars proclaiming "Cougar Mountain Regional Wildlife Park"!

Trip Time: Varies, based on trails explored.
