Glacier Maury Island gravel project

Last updated May 11, 2012

The former site of the proposed revision to allow barging of sand and gravel from Maury Island was acquired by King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks in December 2010 to be managed for open space purposes. The grading permit will remain in place until such time as any necessary grading is completed to allow the King County Parks Division to achieve their management goals for facilitating passive recreational use of the site and to achieve acceptable reclamation of the former mined areas of the property. Any plans to actively mine, process or barge material from the site were abandoned once the sale from CalPortland Company to King County was complete.

If you have questions or comments regarding King County Parks plans for this site, referred to now as “Maury Island Site”, you may direct them to King County Parks Project Manager Connie Blumen at (206) 263-6371 or by email at connie.blumen@kingcounty.gov. The Parks web page for the site may be found at: http://www.kingcounty.gov/recreation/parks/naturalresources/naturallands/mauryislandsite.aspx.  If you have questions regarding the grading permit, they may be directed to the Department of Permitting at 206-296-6600.
