Spellman awards for achievements in historic preservation

Learn more about the recipients of our John D. Spellman Awards. 

The John D. Spellman Awards recognize achievements in historic preservation. The awards are presented once a year by the King County Executive. Spellman was the first King County Executive and 18th governor of Washington. He established the County’s Historic Preservation Program in 1980.

Daniels Real Estate, the City of Kenmore, and the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission 

Daniels Real Estate, the City of Kenmore, and the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission are being honored for launching this large-scale rehabilitation project. Through their initiative, they saved and transformed the Saint Edward Seminary in Kenmore into The Lodge at St. Edward State Park.  The 1931 building is now a hotel, spa, and meeting venue.

The recipients of the 21st annual John D. Spellman Awards for Exemplary Achievement in Historic Preservation are:

 

Lorelea Hudson

Lorelea Hudson is recognized for her volunteer service. Hudson has had a lasting impact on our community through her commitment to advancing public understanding of our cultural heritage. An archaeologist, Hudson was honored for her three decades of leadership, mentorship, and service. She has taken on an important role identifying, interpreting, and protecting cultural artifacts in our region.

 

Eileen and Gordon Wolcott 

Owners Eileen and Gordon Wolcott were honored for their tireless stewardship of Vashon Theatre. Their creative spirit and community engagement have kept this theatre thriving in Vashon’s town center. Vashon Theatre has shown first-run movies and hosted community events since 1947. 

 

Craig Glazier, Lucas and Jamie Haines, Matthew Sherman, and Ayla Lukascik

Craig Glazier, owner, and Volition Brewing Team members Lucas and Jamie Haines, Matthew Sherman, and Ayla Lukascik were recognized for their outstanding rehabilitation of Glazier’s Dry Goods Store for new use as Volition Brewing Company. Their dynamic partnership has brought new energy to North Bend's commercial core.
