Special Use Permit application procedures

A Special Use Permit is a permit for the use of County property in which King County has an ownership interest. The Special Use Permit is submitted in the form of a letter, in addition to a completed application form (PDF).

There may be fees required for the processing, administration, land use, inspection, and plan review associated with the permit request.

Additionally, there may be a requirement to add King County as an additional insured on your insurance policy and/or bonding requirements to reduce King County exposure to liability and damage.

The content of your application letter should include the following information:

  • Applicant's name, address and phone number
  • Define the use proposed for the county property
  • Provide plans depicting the location of the proposed use
  • The proposed method of installation and construction
  • Define, if required, the proposed method of operation and maintenance
  • Define all the required permits necessary to perform the work or installation
  • Proposed duration of the use
  • The total cost associated with work or activities of the proposed work
