Core-to-Edge Optical DWDM NetworkAbout a year ago the King County I-Net team began the process of replacing the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) platform with new technology. After considerable research and customer feedback, the decision to replace the ATM network with an optical Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology platform was finalized. An optical DWDM technology platform provides the flexibility to offer substantially greater bandwidth, end-to-end network monitoring capability, and a range of new services and capability to I-Net customers. Equipment from ADVA Optical Networking was selected. And on September 1, 2011 King County I-Net entered into contract with Walker & Associates Inc., as the support organization with ADVA Optical Networking as the equipment manufacturer to help guide and provide the implementation effort, bringing a high level of confidence, experience, and training with the Walker and I-Net teams. Customer communications and integration timelineOngoing communication and implementation plans for existing I-Net customer sites will be completed prior to final field tests by November 30, 2011. Timing of customer implementations will be planned in close collaboration with each customer based on your availability, and our project schedule. Consideration of your business needs and integration of the ADVA optical solution to avoid network service disruption is our immediate goal. User Action RequestedWe are asking that each customer to identify one individual (and a back-up) to be the primary communication contact for King County I-Net for during this implementation process, by October 13, 2011.
