Record Group 010 KING COUNTY FREEHOLDERSSee also: Record Group 401: Charter Review Commission ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY The Board of King County Freeholders was a fifteen-member commission elected by county voters in November 1967 to draft a home rule charter for the county. The charter was presented to the voters in an election a year later and adopted, significantly changing the structure of county government. Among other reforms, the office of County Commissioners was abolished and replaced with a County Council and Executive. SERIES DESCRIPTION 010-270 Records, 1967-1968 Photocopies of minutes, correspondence, charter drafts and newspaper clippings concerning the successful drafting of the home rule charter for King County. Also includes copies of the minutes of the 1952 King County Freeholders (an earlier attempt to adopt a charter that failed) and clippings relating to the work of Snohomish County Freeholders. Several recordings of various hearings and meetings in an undetermined state of preservation also are contained in this series.
