Overview

Using iMAP is a brownbag workshop which introduces an interactive Web-based mapmaking application to new users. iMAP provides online access, via an HTML browser window, to map layers in the King County Spatial Data Warehouse.

Audience

Using iMAP is for those who are relatively new to the iMAP browser-based interface. No prior knowledge of iMAP or GIS is required.

Goals

  • Students will display King County GIS data using a web browser.
  • Students will query parcels using parcel identification numbers or addresses.
  • Students will find features using a query statement.
  • Students will gain a basic understanding of the map set concept.
  • Students will produce a map for printing or export to JPEG format.

Topics Covered

  • iMAP tools.
  • General iMAP functionality.
  • Parcel query and display.
  • Map sets query and display.
  • Creating maps and graphics for use outside of iMAP.

Prerequisites and Recommendations

Registrants may wish to start up and use iMAP a few times prior to this workshop. Limited knowledge of iMAP terms and basic Microsoft Internet Explorer skills are assumed.
