Overview

This half-day course covers changes and updates to the ArcGIS interface that will effect how KCGIS users, analysts and data stewards interact with their GIS data and environment. It includes demos, exercises, and ample time for student questions and answers.

Audience

Staying Current with GIS: Beyond the Basics is for KCGIS users, analysts and data stewards.

Goals

  • Students will learn how to access the latest software updates, ESRI technical documents, user forums, developer samples & ArcScripts in order to make a smooth transition to ArcGIS 10.x.
  • Students will gain a solid overall understanding of new KCGIS data creation methods using ArcGIS 10.x.
  • Students will learn how to put updated ArcGIS 10.x functionality to work in King County.

Topics Covered

  • Hot Topics: software updates, shortcuts, common warning messages solved, known issues & workarounds.
  • Quick terminology review & "where's that tool?"
    (e.g., changed menu names, toolbox search).
  • What's new in KCGIS data creation.
  • What's cool in ArcGIS 10.x.

Prerequisites and Recommendations

Basic ArcGIS skills are assumed.
