Location is a foundation of the real estate market. A Geographic Information System can be used to discern and graphically display patterns that are based on location. Such information is useful when reviewing regional markets and in the analysis of specific micro-neighborhoods and industries. This presentation map depicts real estate sales between 2000 and 2003 for east Seattle. The aerial photo background provides a locational reference for the viewer, against which patterns can be seen when sales are stratified by price. An additional distinction was made between residential and commercial properties. The map was produced by GIS staff in the King County Department of Assessments. Visitors to GIS Day 2003 in King County selected this map for the People's Choice Award. | Ombudsman Inquiries by Zip Code

This series of simple choroplethic maps (in which numerical classes are depicted by graduated color tints) shows the number of inquiries received by the King County Office of Citizen Complaints- Ombudsman tabulated by zip code for the years 1999, 2000, and 2001. King County Council districts, represented by the numerals 1-13 on the maps, are superimposed over the data. The maps were produced by the King County GIS Center Client Services Group for inclusion in Ombudsman annual reports for the respective years (hence the maps do not have internal titles). | |
