TNET Consortium

The master database is housed in a data repository hosted by King County. Consortium editors maintain their member’s replica within their own editing environment. Each replica can then be reconciled and posted against any number of internal editors. Once all changes have been incorporated into a given replica it in turn is synchronized against the master database via the internet on a nightly basis. Synchronization frequency, cross-boundary data maintenance, jurisdictional issues, modifications to the data design and other topics are handled collectively by Consortium members.

The most important elements of the TNET architecture are local partner members that participate in the TNET Consortium. Partner members participate as either two-way read/write, i.e. share in data maintenance, or one-way read only, i.e. simple data sharing. The “governing body” of the TNET Consortium consists of a representative from each two-way member and possibly observer representatives from each one-way member. This body manages interactions between participating groups and defines system requirements and capabilities. King County Department of Transportation Information Technology (KC DOT IT) GIS organizes the consortium and performs maintenance tasks for unincorporated areas as well as jurisdictions not otherwise maintained.
