Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR)

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to King County for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2009. This was the 29th consecutive year that the County has achieved this prestigious award. In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, a government must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized comprehensive annual financial report. This report must satisfy both generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements. A Certificate of Achievement is valid for a period of one year only. We believe that our current comprehensive annual financial report continues to meet the Certificate of Achievement Program's requirements and have submitted it to the GFOA to determine its eligibility for another certificate. The information in the CAFR has not been updated for developments subsequent to the date of the independent auditor's report.

Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR)

The Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) is an easy to read version of the County's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) designed to provide citizens with an overview of the County's revenues, expenditures, and other general information. It is primarily a graphical representation of the financial and statistical information contained in the CAFR. Though the PAFR has not been audited, its financial content is derived from the County's audited CAFR. King County's 2010 PAFR has been submitted to the Government Finance Officers Association to determine its eligibility for a PAFR award.
