Boards and CommissionsRecords created by King County Boards and Commissions are subject to the Washington State Public Records Act (RCW 42.56). On December 13, 2010, the King County Council passed Ordinance 16997, which established a deadline of May 1, 2011, for all current Boards and Commissions members to receive training about their responsibilities for records retention and Public Records Act Compliance. Subsequently, a training curriculum was developed and has been delivered to many boards and commissions with still more trainings scheduled. Additionally, the ordinance recommended development of a video training to further facilitate reaching all boards and commissions members. The video training is now available in two formats (as linked here and on DVD, which can be made available upon request). Boards and Commissions members who receive training, whether in person or via the video, should complete a certification form and provide it to the liaison for their board or commission. This form is required in accordance with Ordinance 16997. To view the training video, please click here. To view the PowerPoint presentation, please click here.
