King County Reduced Fare Bus Ticket Program
The Reduced Fare Bus Ticket Program assists homeless and low-income clients of human service agencies with bus transportation. Agencies applying for tickets are usually located in King County, outside the City of Seattle.
Bus tickets are subsidized for agencies serving these clients, with each agency paying 20 percent of the ticket's face value. King County Metro Transit Division covers the other 80 percent. In 2007 about $828,000 was available for the Reduced Fare Bus Ticket Program.
To be eligible, agencies must:
- Be located in King County, outside the Seattle city limits*;
- Serve a majority of clients whose residence is in King County, outside the city of Seattle; and
- Use the tickets only for clients who meet the definition of "homeless" and/or "low income."
*Note: There is some flexibility in where the agency is located but the agency must serve a majority of clients who live outside of the City of Seattle. The City of Seattle (external) offers a similar program for agencies within Seattle city limits.
