The Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) places the highest value on the input and assistance of the consumers, family members, and citizens who volunteer to serve on our ten citizen advisory boards.
Each of these boards plays a vital role in the development of programs, policies, services, funding, and legislative advocacy in a variety of human service areas. Board calendars and meeting summaries are available on each of the DCHS Board web sites listed at right. The boards seek members that mirror the county's diverse makeup with regard to age, gender, ethnic and cultural perspectives, and countywide representation. Several of the boards also have unique recruitment needs or requirements spelled out within their bylaws.
If you would like to have a voice in shaping human services, now and in the future, please consider volunteering! Information on how to volunteer is available for each of the DCHS Boards listed at right.
King County serves as the local government for the residents of the unincorporated areas - the rural and urban parts of the county not included in the boundaries of any city. Unincorporated Area Councils (UACs) are independent entities formed to improve communication between county government and the residents of the unincorporated areas. Each council is a volunteer organization with a board elected by the residents of the area.
Community service representatives - DCHS staff - serve as liaisons between the unincorporated area councils and county government. They attend community meetings, arrange for briefings from county staff on a wide variety of issues, and provide other support and assistance. Click here for more information
King County Executive Ron Sims convenes an annual joint community meeting each year to bring together the leadership of all six UACs and the residents of the unincorporated areas to discuss issues of interest and concern with the county executive. The annual forum is one of many ways the county works to gather and share information with residents of these communities.
