The Seattle-King County Advanced Practice Center (APC) is a resource for local public health agencies throughout the nation as it develops plans and builds local and regional capacity for responding to an act of bioterrorism or other public health emergency.

King County Healthcare Coalition
King County Healthcare Coalition

The King County Healthcare Coalition is a network of healthcare organizations and providers working together to strengthen emergency preparedness and response. A voluntary organization administered by Public Health – Seattle & King County, the Coalition is open to all organizations and individuals that provide or support health care services in King County.

Public Health Reserve Corps
Public Health Reserve Corps

The Public Health Reserve Corps is deployed when disaster impacts our own communities. The Public Health Reserve Corps is a group of volunteers prescreened and trained to augment Public Health staff during an emergency in King County.

Green River Basin flood preparedness
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has discovered damage to a portion of the Howard Hanson Dam. This dam has controlled flooding in the Green River Valley for the last 40 years, however the dam will only operate at 30% capacity this winter. Therefore, there is a much greater risk of significant flooding during periods of heavy rain throughout the lower Green River Valley, affecting the cities of Auburn, Kent, Renton, and Tukwila.

Health and Medical Area Command
The Health & Medical Area Command provides for the direction, coordination and mobilization of health and medical resources, information and personnel during emergencies and disasters in King County.

Isolation and Quarantine
Public Health - Seattle & King County is leading the region in the unprecedented challenge of meeting preparedness and clinical requirements for disease surveillance, mass treatment operations, and for isolation and quarantine protocols and training.

Pandemic Flu
A pandemic flu is a new influenza virus that could be a much more serious flu virus than seen in a typical flu season. Different from the typical strains of flu, humans would have no or little natural resistance to a new strain of influenza.

Radiological Emergencies
In the event of an emergency involving radiation or radioactive materials, Public Health - Seattle & King County will play an integral role in the local response and will coordinate with local, state and national agencies.

Seasonal and H1N1 influenza
Influenza spreads readily from person to person in schools, workplaces and homes. Everyone over 6 months of age should get the annual flu vaccine to prevent sickness, unnecessary healthcare visits, hospitalizations and deaths from influenza. Single flu vaccine now provides protection against the H1N1 flu that caused outbreaks in 2009 and other seasonal flu viruses.

Vulnerable Populations Action Team (VPAT)
The Vulnerable Populations Action Team (VPAT) coordinates countywide preparedness efforts with a wide variety of community partners. The team includes a diverse cross section of staff with public health expertise in vulnerable populations, preparedness and infectious diseases.
