Reactions to Multiple Efforts to Awaken Gay/Bi Men (9/27/02) This sixth article for 2002 summarizes the responses to my last article. While most people liked what I wrote, my recommendations were troublesome to some people. Here I write about the published and email responses to my prior article, and some other exhortations to gay and bisexual men that have occurred over the summer, and I describe my thoughts about those responses.

Public Health and Community Responses (5/24/02) This article describes local responses to the upswing in STD in G/BM in more detail, reasons being offered for why STD have been rising again to pre-AIDS levels in G/BM, and includes findings from a local rapid survey done last spring by anthropologists from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

I tell this story in the hope that readers who are free of infection will stay that way through coming to understand that having this lifelong infection -- and that treatment for HIV - is not easy.
Shigella in Gay & Bisexual Men(1/11/02) Many gay men today are unaware they are at risk for serious stomach cramps and diarrhea caused by a microscopic bug called Shigella. When this bug is present, disease can easily be spread from one person to another through rimming (oral-anal contact) and from oral contact with contaminated skin including skin in the groin area, the testicles and the penis.
