Friendly and private check-in
This is the first interaction between staff and teens. It is important that staff are friendly and respectful to ensure that teens will stay and return.
- To protect privacy, provide a "welcome sheet" that allows teens to check off why they are here so they don't have to say out loud.
- Many teens are concerned about their confidentiality, so staff may need to provide some education and reassurance.
- "There is no way anyone can find out whether you are a client here or received services."
- "Only you can consent for any information to be given out. You need to sign a consent form for this to happen."
- "If someone calls and asks if you've been here, we say we can't say whether that person has been here or not."
- To protect confidentiality if friends or family members ask the front desk staff if the client is there, staff will need to find ways to protect teens' privacy.
- "I will ask clients in the back if any of them is waiting for their mom."
- "I will ask clients in the back if any of them is waiting for their friend to come into the exam room with them."
