Temporary food service and farmers market permits, and plumbing and gas piping permits also now available over the Internet
|
KING COUNTY, WA -- Nearly 11,000 restaurant operators in King County will now be able to pay for, print and post their public health permits right away, without having to apply in person or wait for the mail, under a new King County online permit service unveiled by Public Health Seattle & King County.
"Putting these permit applications online provides a better customer service for the thousands of people who must do business with our Environmental Health agency," said King County Executive Dow Constantine. "We will keep working to provide more e-commerce services that save time and money for the people of King County."
Public Health has mailed notices to nearly 11,000 restaurants and other food facilities about the new opportunity for online permitting. Food vendors for temporary events and farmers markets can also make use of the online service, along with thousands of property owners, contractors, operators of public pools, schools, and pet businesses needing permits from Public Health's Environmental Health division.
The new online permit process will reduce thousands of vehicle trips per year for people seeking permits that previously had to be purchased in person. Since a pilot program involving online permitting for plumbing and gas piping began last summer, over 1,700 permit purchases have taken place, many of which replaced a vehicle trip to one of Public Health's front counters.
Other online services will be added over the next few months including renewal of annual operating permits for water recreation facilities; electronic submission of applications, required monitoring reports and plans for on site septic systems.
In addition to the permit fee, credit card companies charge transaction fees of $6.99. Electronic check transactions cost $1.49.
The service is part of an integrated on-line system that will be operational in other King County departments in the future.
Customers can access the new online permit system at www.kingcounty.gov/healthservices/health/ehs/portal.aspx.
