New information leads to seven-day closure for Madrona K-8

Thursday, April 30, 2009

KING COUNTY, WA – As a result of Public Health's ongoing overnight investigation into the swine flu infection of a child at Madrona K-8 in Seattle, additional information from school officials has lead local health officials to believe that the infected student may have been ill during school last Friday.

Out of an abundance of caution, Public Health and Seattle Public Schools jointly decided that the best course of action is to close the school for seven days, starting today, to reduce the ability of the infection to spread. The school is scheduled to re-open on May 7.

Providing effective and innovative health and disease prevention services for over 1.8 million residents and visitors of King County, Public Health - Seattle & King County works for safer and healthier communities for everyone, every day.
