Avoid spreading diseases during cold and flu season

Wednesday, January 12, 2005

KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON - Today, Public Health - Seattle & King County is launching a "Stop germs, stay healthy" campaign to promote ways people can protect themselves and others from the viruses that cause colds and flu.

The "Stop germs, stay healthy" campaign consists of a television public service announcement (PSA) that is already airing in local stations, plus an interactive web page with an entertaining quiz and a game to promote good health manners. Visit the "Stop Germs, Stay Healthy!" web page.

"These new tools offer practical and entertaining ways to learn about health issues and how to stay healthy, especially during this cold and flu season," said Dr. Alonzo Plough, Director and Health Officer of Public Health - Seattle & King County.

"Public Health recommends that everybody practice good health manners, including covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands frequently, and staying home when sick," said Plough. "These good health practices at work, school, home and other places are a sure way to reduce the chance you and others will get sick."

Providing effective and innovative health and disease prevention services for over 1.8 million residents and visitors of King County, Public Health - Seattle & King County works for safer and healthier communities for everyone, every day.
