KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON - Today, an exciting new collaboration to increase needed services to Latino seniors in Kirkland and the surrounding area was launched.
Starting immediately, existing programming at the Kirkland Senior will be made available to Latino seniors every Wednesday through the presence of a bilingual staff worker.
This new program, funded by the City of Kirkland Human Services Commission, is a collaboration between the city and SeaMar Community Health Centers, which is providing the staffing for the weekly program.
Public Health - Seattle & King County facilitated this collaboration, based on an assessment sponsored by Kirkland Deputy Mayor Joan McBride and conducted by Public Health.
"Social activity is an important part of good health. We commend the City of Kirkland and SeaMar Community Health centers for helping reduce isolation and life stressors for people in the Latino senior community," said Dr. Alonzo Plough, Director of Public Health - Seattle & King County.
Public Health is optimistic that this outreach program will attract additional funds in the near future to reduce heath disparities for the area's Latino community.
