KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON - The King County Board of Health is holding its June meeting on Friday, June 16, 2000, 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM. The location is Harborview Hall, Harborview Medical Center, 326 Ninth Avenue, Seattle. The agenda is scheduled to be as follows:

  • Call To Order

  • Announcement of Any Alternates Serving in Place of Regular Members

  • Approval of Minutes May 19, 2000 (Action Item)

  • Chair's Report
    • August Meeting Cancellation (Action Item) -- The Board will consider whether or not to cancel the August meeting due to the scheduled County Council recess and vacation schedules.)
    • Briefing on National Tobacco Settlement fund allocation and the Tobacco Prevention and Control Plan -- (Dr. Robert Jaffe, Project Director of Smokeless States, will give a status report on the fund allocation of the National Tobacco Settlement, including information on the amount of statewide funding and the role of the King County Tobacco Council.)

  • Director of Health's Report
    • Presentation of options for revisiting food services establishment fees in light of MVET mitigation -- (When the Board adopted fee increases for food service establishments in November, 1999, it stipulated that the fee increase would be reconsidered if the Legislature restored MVET funding lost due to I-695. The Legislature restored 45% of lost MVET funding for 6 months of the year 2000 and 90% of the lost MVET funding for the year 2001. Public Health staff will present a set of options for maintaining or changing those fees.)

  • Resolution No. 00-303
    • Supporting the Decision of the Seattle Metropolitan Area Waterfowl Management Committee To Invite the USDA - Wildlife Services To Control the Population of Canada Geese (Action Item) -- (The Board will consider a resolution stating support for the Seattle Metropolitan Area Waterfowl Management Committee's decision to take steps to control the population of Canada geese in King County. The Board received briefings on the Canada geese problem in July 1999 and April 2000 which outlined the escalation of the Canada goose population, efforts to control the population and the public health concerns about human contact with goose feces.)

  • Washington State Trauma System: Role of Harborview Medical Center
    • Trauma Center tour following meeting -- (Dr. Scott Barnhart, Medical Director and Ms. Johnese Spisso, Chief Operating Officer for Harborview Medical Center will give a briefing on the Washington State Trauma System and the role of Harborview Medical Center. The presentation will include information on how Harborview fits into the public health system, Harborview's role as a safety-net provider, Harborview's Trauma Center, the process for trauma center designation and an explanation of Harborview's relationship with Public Health's Medic One. Boardmembers will tour the Harborview Trauma Center following the meeting.)
