King County Board of Health has full agenda for May meeting

KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON - The King County Board of Health is holding its May meeting on Friday, May 19, 2000, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The location is the Metropolitan King County Council Chambers, 516 Third Avenue, 10th floor, Courthouse, Seattle. The public is welcome to attend. The agenda is scheduled to be as follows:

  2. Announcement of Any Alternates Serving in Place of Regular Members

  3. Approval of Minutes April 21, 2000 (Action Item)

  4. General Public Comments

  6. Director of Health's Report

  7. Budget Policy Workshop Continuation
    Policy Options for Building Capacity for Chronic Disease and Healthy Aging Programs - (In a continuation of the budget policy workshop began at its February meeting, the Board will engage in the third and final discussion on public health program areas in which the decline in or absence of flexible local funding adversely affects program capacity. This discussion will focus on policy choices for chronic disease prevention and healthy aging.)

  8. Rulemaking to Bring Food Code into Compliance with State Food Code (Action Item)
    The Board will consider a regulatory change to bring the County Food Code into compliance with the State Food Code in two areas: 1) Notification when unpasteurized juices are offered for immediate service or for sale as ready to eat, and 2) The period of time within which a food worker is required to obtain a permit.

  9. Resolution No. 00-303 Supporting the Decision of the Seattle Metropolitan Area Waterfowl Management Committee
    To Invite the USDA - Wildlife Services To Control the Population of Canada Geese (Action Item) - (The Board will consider a resolution stating support for the Seattle Metropolitan Area Waterfowl Management Committee's decision to take steps to control the population of Canada geese in King County. The Board received briefings on the Canada geese problem in July 1999 and April 2000 which outlined the escalation of the Canada goose population, efforts to control the population and the public health concerns about human contact with goose feces.)

  10. Election of Chair (Action Item)
    State law requires that local boards of health elect their chair annually. Metropolitan King County Councilmember Greg Nickels is the current chair.

  11. Update on Ad Hoc Committee on Integration of Natural Medicine and Public Health
    The Board formed an ad hoc committee to develop a proposal for an institute for integration of natural medicine principles and practice on health promotion into public health.

  12. Executive Session
    For discussion with legal counsel pursuant to Open Public Meetings Act, RCW 42.30.110(i).
