KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON - The King County Board of Health is holding its April meeting on Friday, April 21, 2000, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The location is the Metropolitan King County Council Chambers, 516 Third Avenue, 10th floor, Courthouse, Seattle. The public is welcome to attend. The agenda is scheduled to be as follows:

Chair's Report

  • Update on Activities Recommended in Board Resolution No. 99-302 Recommending That Availability of Opiate Substitution Treatment in King County Be Increased (Norma Jaeger, Chief of Treatment and Rehabilitation Services Section in the Department of Community & Human Services, will give an update including the activities which have occurred in response to the Board recommendations.)

  • Report on Board Evaluation (Board Administrator Cathy Gaylord will present the results of the evaluation of the Board which included a survey of members and compilation of evaluations collected from board members and members of the public over the last 2 years.)

Director of Health's Report

  • Status of MVET Mitigation for Public Health in Legislature (Dr. Plough will report the latest activites from Olympia on the state budget.)

  • Briefing on Standards for Public Health in Washington State (Dr. Plough will brief the Board on these performance standards for all local health departments in Washington.)

Budget Policy Workshop Continuation
Policy Options for Meeting Capacity Needs for Communicable Disease Outbreak Control Field Activities (In a continuation of the budget policy workshop began at its February meeting, the Board will engage in the second of three discussions focusing on public health program areas in which the decline in or absence of flexible local funding adversely affects program capacity. This second discussion will focus on communicable disease outbreak control in the field. The final discussion in May will address chronic disease prevention and healthy aging.)

Election of Chair at May Meeting (State law requires that local boards of health elect their chair annually. Metropolitan King County Councilmember Greg Nickels is the current chair. The election of the chair is scheduled for the May board meeting.)

Progress Report of Ad Hoc Committee on Integration of Natural Medicine and Public Health (Board formed ad hoc committee to develop a proposal for an institute for integration of natural medicine principles and practice on health promotion into public health. Committee Chair Dr. Pizzorno will report.)
