KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON - Dr. Alonzo Plough, Director of Public Health- Seattle & King County, has named Dr. Richard Harruff as King County's Chief Medical Examiner effective immediately. Dr. Harruff has served as the Acting Chief Medical Examiner since July 1, 1999, when Dr. Donald Reay retired.
"Dr. Harruff has a distinguished record with Public Health and will serve as a fine Chief Medical Examiner", said Dr. Plough. "His excellent technical and research skills have already earned him high marks from medical and law enforcement professionals as well as members of our community".
Dr. Harruff began working for King County in June 1993, serving as the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner. He has played key roles in the Office's forensic pathology residency program, child death review, research in numerous violence reduction and injury prevention topics, and promoting excellent partnerships between Public Health, law enforcement agencies, and other community partners.
"I appreciate the opportunity and challenge to serve the residents of King County and our many partners involved with the public health, medical, and legal aspects of death investigation", said Dr. Harruff.
