HIV/AIDS Planning Council launches open process for care planning

Monday, February 28, 2000

KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON - Approximately $5 million in federal, state, and local funds will be entrusted to Seattle's HIV/AIDS Planning Council to fund HIV/AIDS care services for low-income residents of King County for the 2001 contract year. To determine how to prioritize these funds, the Planning Council's Care Planning Committee -- which includes Council members, health providers, persons living with HIV/AIDS, and others from the community -- will hold a series of public meetings, ultimately drafting a prioritization plan for review and approval by the full Council.

These meetings will be held on specific Thursdays from 9:30 - 11:30 AM during March, April, and May of year 2000. Two full-day sessions will be scheduled in June to complete the prioritization effort. Thursday meetings will be convened at Providence Medical Center (500 - 17th Avenue, Seattle). Everyone is welcome to attend and observe or provide input into the planning process.

The planning effort will be based upon input from these public meetings as well as information and data gathered through a rigorous needs assessment process undertaken over the last two years. Input has already been gathered from hundreds of persons living with HIV/AIDS as well as HIV care service providers throughout King County.

The HIV/AIDS Planning Council, a 30-member community planning body established in 1993, determines how federal, state, and local funds are used for HIV/AIDS prevention and care efforts in King County.
