KING COUNTY, WASHINGTON - Public Health - Seattle & King County has been selected by Evergreen Healthcare to receive a 1999 Community Service Award for "having a profound impact on enhancing the health of the Eastside community".
Evergreen Healthcare's Board President, Rex Lindquist, will present the award to Dr. Alonzo Plough, Director of Public Health, on Tuesday, February 22, 2000, at Evergreen's monthly Board meeting. This meeting begins at 7:30 PM and takes place at Evergreen Hospital Medical Center, 12040 NE 128th Street, Kirkland, in the Green B 204.1-2 meeting rooms.
Public Health - Seattle & King County protects and promotes the health of Eastside residents, not only providing direct health services (e.g., immunizations, dental care, tobacco prevention education), but also monitoring the health of the community and intervening as indicated to address emerging problems.
Public Health often partners with other agencies to address key health issues for each community. On the Eastside, one notable collaboration is Partners for a Healthier Community, a multi-disciplinary effort involving hospitals, community agencies, activists, providers, and public health professionals. This partnership has improved the health of the Eastside community by addressing several community needs including maternal and infant health, domestic violence and child abuse, breast health, and health risks for adolescents.
Every year, Evergreen Healthcare recognizes notable contributions toward improving the health and well being of the citizens of our community through the Community Service Award. Community Service Award winners are selected by the Board of Commissioners of Evergreen Healthcare.
